 Dog Training Classes

STAR  Program

 

 Basic manners training is accomplished in a four week program.      

Puppy Kindergarten for ages 8 weeks to 5 months or

Dog classes for dogs 6 months and older. 

If you have already taken a STAR class and

want to practice or expand your skills choose a Refresher Class.

Stationary

Emphasizes the following cues:

Sit—dog sit on a verbal cue within 3 sec

Down—dog lies down with elbows touching the ground within 3 seconds of cue

Stand—dog stands on cue still and allows a friendly stranger to touch their body

Off—dog will have 4 feet on the ground

Leave It—dog will leave a desirable object

Attention—dog will learn to give eye contact

Touch—hand targeting with dog’s nose

Grooming/Nail Trim manners

 

 

Tranquility

Relax—dog will relax in a quiet down position on cue until cued to move

Stay—dog will sit/stand/down and stay on cue for a varied length of time

Say Hello—dog will greet a friendly stranger appropriately/dog will greet a friendly dog appropriately/dog learns to sit to greet

What have you got?—dog learns to exchange a desirable item for a treat

Relaxation games

 

Action

Let’s go—the beginnings of loose lead walking

Twists and turns—the dog will learn to walk with the handler without interfering—includes circles, right, left and about turn.

Pace—dogs will learn to adjust speed from slow to fast

Heel—the dog will learn heeling basics(walking at the handler’s heels and sitting automatically beside the handler

Beside/behind—dog will adjust pace and its location based on environment.

 

 

 

 

Reliable Recalls

 

Come—on the first cue, reliably, and fast!

Distractions—dog learns to come through a variety of distractions

The art of chase games and teaching a reliable recall

 

 

 

 

2010 Prices:

 $ 55 for a STAR Pass which includes all four modules

($5 discount for payment before the first night class)

Puppy Kindergarten-1/2 off next class

 

 

 

Other Classes

These are offered throughout the year.  If you have taken classes before or have a trained dog, please ask about taking a Free New Class Session—I offer these when I am working on a new class.

 

How it Works

1. Training is divided into 4 basic modules:  Stationary, Tranquility, Action and Recall.

2. Classes are offered 2 or 3 times per week.

3. You must sign up for the four week session.

4. If you must miss a class, you may make up this class during the week or during another month

5. You will receive a $5 discount if you register and pay for your next class before the beginning of the month.

6. Classes are limited to 4 dogs.  Please register early.

Daytime Basics  Tuesday 1:30
